SAN ANTONIO DE PADUA PARISH CHURCH

In the Municipality of Tuburan, Tuburanons praise Patron Saint Anthony of Padua, a saint of good business, sailors, expectant mothers, the poor, lost souls, and even lost items. Tuburanons commemorate the feast of the Saint every 13th day of June.

It was in 1857, when a seed of catholic faith sprouted in the municipality through the birth of the parish of San Antonio de Padua, just six years after the municipality was founded. The newly established parish was spearheaded by Rev. Fr. Prospero Salazar. The Parish was profoundly damaged during the World War II. From its humble beginnings of having a parish church built on wood, lime and cornerstone, Post war rehabilitation transformed the church into its present structure.

Today, it is a landmark of faith among the Tuburanons. After one hundred and fifty-four (154) years of existence, the parish has been given Conferment as “The Archdiocesan Shrine of San Antonio de Padua” on January 31, 2007 by His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal During its conferment January 31, 2007 to January 31, 2008 was also declared as “A Special Year of Grace”.
