Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus

LGU Tuburan, with Mayor Diamante at the helm, celebrated the Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Patroness of LGU Tuburan, with a 9-Day novena, and culminated with a procession of the Patron Saint of LGU Tuburan on October 1, the fiesta day. Dinner followed courtesy of the Mayor.

In his message, Mayor Democrito M. Diamante expressed utmost gratitude to Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano for the financial assistance to LGU Tuburan. Mr. Rey Martinez, Representative for the Visayas from the Office of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano graced the occasion on behalf of the good Senator.

Exit conference on coa barangay audit

Attended by the Barangay Officials, namely the Brgy. Captains, Treasurers, personnel from the LGU Accounting Office and the LIGA, and the COA representatives.

The Conference was conducted in order to enhance the level of awareness and knowledge of the Punong Barangays and the Brgy. Treasurers on their roles, duties, and responsibilities, as well as the proper approaches and methods in handling government funds.

With a total of 112 officials attending, the conference was conducted at the municipal Museum.

Senior Citizen Week

The Tuburan Association of Senior Citizens, Inc. (TASCI), in coordination with LGU Tuburan, celebrated the Senior Citizen Week from October 1-7, 2011, with the theme: “Nakakatanda: Gabay, Tulay, Kaaapay, at Bantay Tungo sa Kaunlaran. Spearheading the activities were Mr. Jose P. Retubado, Jr. OSCA Head and Ms. Ma. Medallina T. Ruelan, TASCI President. Initial activity was made through a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Lucas Inoc.

Succeeding activities during the weeklong affair included Physical Fitness, home visits to sick senior citizens, among others.

The Culminating activity was conducted on October 7, the last day of the celebration, at the Tuburan Covered Court with the participation of the senior citizens from the various barangays.

Universal CHILDREN’s Month Celebration

October has been declared as Universal Children’s Month in order to advocate and strengthen children’s response to maltreatment with of all forms of violence against all children, and the rights of the community to participate in order to safeguard their physical and mental well being. To celebrate the event, a series of activities was conducted. On October 3, a Search for Mr. & Miss UNO among the Day Care children was conducted at the Tuburan Covered Court. The lucky winners were Mr. Alexis Morein Pacquiao and Ms. Juntine Kylle Raman, both residents of Brgy. 8.

On October 7, an Orientation on the Rights of Children was conducted. Held at the Day Care Center of Brgy. 3, Tuburan, Cebu, the activity was led by Ms. Berlina A. Cana, DSWD Head. This was attended by Fifty-two (52) children with ages 12-17 years old from the various barangays in Tuburan.

To wind up the month long celebration, on October 18, a Singing Contest and a Draw-and –Tell Contest for Day Care Children were conducted. The lucky winner for the Draw-and-Tell category who got the First Prize was Archina Analucas from Brgy. Mangga Day Care Center. On the other hand, Alyssa Mundel from Brgy. Cogon won the First Prize in the singing contest.

Gawad Kalinga at Brgy. Kabangkalan

Mayor Aljun, together with the personnel from Gawad Kalinga, Counselor Danilo M. Diamante, Steve Salipot, and Engr. Dexter B. Delica, went to Brgy. Kabangkalan to conduct a site inspection on the location of the proposed housing project. Donated by Mayor Democrito M. Diamante, the one-hectare lot is designed to accommodate the Gawad Kalinga Housing Project.

A total of Fifty houses shall be constructed in the area as initial project.

Launching of Supplemental Day Care Feeding Program

Initiated by DSWD personnel of LGU, led by Ms. Berlina A. Cana, the activity was held at the Tuburan Covered Court. Involved were Brgy. Officials together the Day Care Teachers in the various barangays.

The feeding utensils consisted of 30 pieces. Spoon & fork, 1 piece ladle, 1 piece big kettle, 30 plates, 30 glasses for every pack. These were distributed to the Fifty Two Barangay Day Care Centers. On the whole, out of Fifty-four barangays, there are only four barangays which do not have Day Care Centers.

Funding for the project in the amount of Php 1,582, 225.00 Million, was taken from the DSWD Supplementary Feeding Funds. This also covers the scheduled Feeding Program for 120 Days (School days only) which shall be conducted in the Day Care Centers.

In his message, the Mayor mentioned the major priorities in his Administration namely; education, health, environmental protection, and peace & order, among others. Moreover he emphasized the value of hard work and living within one’s means in order to reach the goal of economic independence.

The distribution of the Supplemental Feeding utensils was conducted by Mayor Diamante, assisted by the DSWD personnel, and SB Members.

1ST TUBURAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

Conducted at the CTU, Tuburan Campus, the Summit aimed to give Orientation to the youth in the area of Team Building. Participated in by SK officials of the various barangays, the Three-day seminar exposed the youth to varied experiences which purported to prepare them for Leadership.

Spearheaded by Ms. Cecille C. Belcina, DILG Mun. Local Govt. Operation Officer (MLGOO), the Seminar was attended by sixty-one participants.

MEDICAL MISSION FOR THE MENTALLY ILL

Initiated by Dra. Lizette T. Jamora-Antig, RHU I MHO Designate, the activity aimed to provide medical assistance to the mentally ill.

The Medical Team was composed of Psyciatrists, Medical Team from VSMMC, Medical Representatives, personnel from the PMHA, among others.

Medicines were given to the patients, while needed counselling was done to others.

Almost 20 Kabangkalan Residents

During our arrival, GK Community Bogo prepared a welcome party to the group, with song and dance activities. Then, we were able to see the whole community from their organic farm and botanical garden, and showed to us different designs of GK houses. Lunch was served, some of the food prepared was taken from their organic garden. We depart around 3:00 PM back to Tuburan.

INSTALLATION OF CCTV (CLOSE CIRCUIT TV) CAMERA

To ensure security, eight (8) CCTV cameras were installed at the Tuburan Municipal Hall. Jonathan Camasura, Consultant, with the assistance of some Job orders, took charge in the installation. Three (3) were installed outdoors and five (5) indoors.

MEETING WITH RAMON ABOITIZ FOUNDATION, INC. (RAFI)

A representative from RAFI, Mr. Constantine E. Samson, on October 25 2011 conducted a Meeting with LGU Staff, RHU personnel, and barangay officials, in order to organize the Purok System for the LGU projects.

LGU Tuburan has been chosen as one of the four pilot municipalities in Cebu province for the RAFI Purok System project. The rest are Catmon, Alcoy, and Alegria.
