Tubod Festival
Two big events incorporated as one, generated a thundering favorable aftermath.
Suroy Suroy Sugbo Explore the Midwest is a program initiated by Gov. Gwen Garcia. The program is enforced in the different participating municipalities thru its Tourism Office. Its main purpose is to promote tourism in the municipality and eventually make way to attract potential investors.
Together with Gov. Gwen Garcia and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, tourists and famous political personalities graced the occasion. Among them were, Sen. Loren Legarda, Congresswoman Mitos Magsaysay, Congressman Teddy Casiño, Former Speaker of the House Jose de Venecia Jr., Congressman Pablo John Garcia and the Beautify Cebu City Movement. All were given the chance to speak before the audience except for the latter.
In time for the Suroy Suroy Sugbo, the annual Tubod Festival was scheduled on the same day. After welcoming all the highly respected guests with the bountiful feast of Tuburan delicacies, everyone took a solemn walk from the Tuburan Covered Court to the Tuburan Boulevard where the Tubod Festival judges, contingents, and spectators awaited for the ritual dance presentations.
Despite the scorching heat of the sun, everyone was in a festive mood waiting for the festival to start. There were 6 contingents, which participated in the mardigra namely TRIBU PAWA, TRIBU LANTAWAN, TRIBU BITIAN, TRIBU MOLOBOLO, TRIBU MAGDAGOOK, and TRIBU MANTAWIHAN. Each cluster was composed of at least 6 barangays grouped as one. For every cluster, a Festival Queen was selected and competed for the FESTIVAL QUEEN 2012 title.
For two hours or more, a colorful display of costume and vigorous performances made the judges` role a tedious one. All the contingents presented the ritual of the dances with one theme song. Prior to the competition proper, a street dancing was held. They showed diligence and artistry enough to catch the judges` attention and bring home the prizes and fame for them and the barangays they represented.-MJPS
