Transportation
Land
There are two main routes accessing the Municipality of Tuburan. The northbound route is via Tabuelan to northern towns; via Lugo to Sogod, down to Cebu City. The southbound route via Toledo to southern towns, Toledo-Minglanilla to Cebu City; via Balamban to transcentral highway then to Cebu City. Other routes of provincial and barangay roads connect the eastern towns in the upland areas.
A total of Twenty-five (25) buses commuting daily in both northern and southern routes. The bus fare rate to Cebu City is Php 100 per person, honoring discounts to Senior Citizens.
For Faster travel time, the V-hire GT (Garage To Terminal) express van is preferred by commuters in going to the city. There are thirty (30) V-hires serving daily routes with more trips passing the south bound route via transcentral highway to Cebu City. V-hire fare rate is Php 130 per person, honoring discounts to senior citizens.
A total of fifty (50) tricycles are operating with specific destinations in the municipality. Tricycles are commonly use to and for lowland barangays, with fare rate is by distance traveled. Passengers bringing more loads prefer to ride tricycles to reach their places.
The motorcycle ( habal-habal ) is the most commonly used vehicle in transporting to mountain barangays of the town. There are a hundred ( 100 ) of them traveling back and forth within its destination bringing about 3-5 or sometimes 6 passengers with or without cargoes. The mobility of this vehicle through rough roads, trails and riversides is an advantage. The fare rate is by distance travel ranging from PhP 20 pesos to PhP 100 pesos per person excluding cargo fare. Maximum rates to far flung barangays.
In the urban area and lowland barangays, the Pedicab ( trisikad ) is the most common means of transportation. A total of two thousand ( 2,000 ) pedicabs are registered in the municipality. This 2-4 seater vehicle rates PhP 3 pesos per person, although some commuters give PhP 5 pesos to compensate human factor involvement.
There are also for-hire jeepneys traveling on franchised routes to neighboring municipalities.
Sea Transportation
For quite some years behind, the inter- island route for passenger vessels had ceased its operation. Now, only private pumpboats landing in nearshore, buying goods during market days. They came from neighboring barangays and the island barangays of Bantayan.
The new administration comes up with a priority project to develop the port into a more operational basis of investments for the municipality under the Built-Operate-Transfer scheme of development.
Roads and Bridges
Roads traversing the Municipality of Tuburan are classified into and comprised of the following :
National 21.89 kilometers
Provincial 29.50 kilometers
Municipal 6.373 kilometers
Barangay 111.095 kilometers
Commonly, the road surfacing of National roads are of concrete, Provincial roads are asphalted, Municipal roads are concreted while Barangay roads are asphalted, though some are gravel-paved yet.
At present, there are 11 bridges in the National road; 6 bridges in the Provincial road and 3 bridges in the Barangay road which span across rivers and creeks. The longest of them is the Langoyon concrete bridge in barangay Mangga, having a span of 121.30 meters.
Communication
The very common and useful means of Communication technology in Tuburan is the Nationwide Cellular Mobile Telephone System (CMTS) – The use of Cellphones With Five (5) Cellsites growing in the municipality, almost every household populations had cellular phones. SIM Packs, cellcards and e-load centers are available in drugstores, sari-sari store, carenderias and mostly in the commercial centers of urban area. There are also Telephone landlines already in existence.
Keeping upgraded with Global Communication Competitiveness, twelve (12) Internet Café are already operating in the municipality the internet technology world-wide is preferred by students in their researches, thesis and school projects.
Cable TV Network is another Information Communication Technology already established in the town. Owned by a Tuburanon, this local network provides thirty (30) cabled channels serving more than 300 subscribers in the urban area. The rate is Php 350 per month with notices of delay.
The Postal Office of the municipality serves as the government delivery institution of registered mails, parcels, notices and money orders. In compliance with the National Identification, this office will issue Postal ID card issued, while in 2009 a total of 272 cards and in 2010 (Jan-Aug.) 186 cards released. An additional letter carrier was provided by the new administration to hasten up deliveries of mails.
