SAN ANTONIO DE PADUA PARISH CHURCH

Filipinos are noted for being religious. We are eminent strong believers of God. There are hundreds of churches nationwide with different patron yet with one God- Jesus Christ. In our Municipality, we praise the patron saint of good business, sailors, expectant mothers, the poor, lost souls, and even lost items. He is Saint Anthony of Padua. We believe that we are guided and enlightened by the perpetual help and blessing of our beloved and merciful patron saint. We commemorate an annual feast in honor of him every June 13.

The beauty of the parish church is maximized and greatly appreciated most at night with all the LED lights outlined on the corners of the church tracing its beautiful and historical architectural form.

Saint Anthony of Padua Parish Church is one of the gems nestled in the bosom of Tuburan. With its semi-Romanesque architecture located at the heart of Tuburan, captured many transients coming from both sides of the province of Cebu. It is considered as one of the ten most significant tourist destination of the Municipality constructed way back 150 years ago. It is a pilgrim destination for believers who seek temporal and spiritual consolation to Saint Anthony of Padua.

When you come here in Tuburan, make sure that you see the Parish Church of the Municipality. If you won’t, your trip to the hidden paradise of the north will be incomplete.

It was on 1857, six years after the municipality of Tuburan, Cebu was founded, the seed of catholic faith was sprouted, thus the birth of the parish of San Antonio de Padua. The newly founded parish was spearheaded by Rev. Fr. Prospero Salazar. From its humble beginnings of having a parish church built of wood, lime and cornerstone and was heavily damaged during the World War II, it still endures the wreck brought about by the test of times. Post war rehabilitation has transformed the church into its present structure.

Today, it is a land mark of faith among the Tuburanons. For one hundred and fifty-four years of existence, the parish has been given Conferment as “The Archdiocesan Shrine of San Antonio de Padua” on January 31, 2007 by His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal. In time of its conferment it was also declared as “A Special Year of Grace” from January 31, 2007 to January 31, 2008.
